MIA – Where the heck have I been?

Yikes, it’s been nearly a month since I last posted anything, and it’s not as though I haven’t had anything to post. In fact, the problem is more about having too much to post, and not enough time.

Probably the most exciting thing that has happened lately has been the expansion of gskinner.com. My little company has grown from one dude (that’s me) to five people (three very talented Flashers, an office assistant, and myself – the CEO and Chief Architect, fancy, eh?) in a little over two months. This has necessitated office space, which is being built up around me as I write this. We are presently working on some absolutely awesome projects with phenomenal clients, as well as some “top secret” internal projects. One of these, code named Daedalous, is nearly complete and I hope to reveal it for the first time publicly at FlashForward NYC (July 7-9). I think (hope) it will be extremely well received by the Flash community – we’ve put a lot of work into making it into something that we’re all very proud of.

AD BREAK: We’re always on the lookout for challenging projects and smart clients to work with. Our key focus is applications and game development, both for end-clients and in a subcontracting role. If you have a project in mind that we can help you deliver successfully, fire an email to info@gskinner.com. Now, back to our regularly scheduled program…

I will be doing a talk at FFNYC on “The Essential Development Process”, where I will be walking through a deliverables-oriented process that mitigates many of the problems Flash developers and designers face with planning, client management, and communication. I also had the pleasure of judging the Technical Merit and Application categories of the Flash Film Festival alongside Jared Tarbell and Bill Buxton respectively. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the finalists, and vote for the People’s Choice.

I’m also happy to see that a piece I helped develop is a finalist in the Navigation category. It was a lot of fun to help build, and I got to work with some really creative folks .

Speaking of awards, another site I did the information architecture, design and front-end for just won the Premier’s Gold Award for Excellence for government websites, which is pretty cool. I could go shake ole Premier Klein’s hand if I was so inclined, but I think I’ll settled for the pin and the certificate instead (I think I’d rather Pie Him).

I will also be doing a talk at FlashEurope in Barcelona in October, which I’m really looking forwards to. Oh, and probably another talk or two closer to home in October as well, which I will announce when the details are firmed up.

Whew… that’s enough babbling for now. I’ll try to post a bit more regularly in the near future to avoid these boring ego-centric catch up posts. 🙂
