Macromedia has posted Grant’s article titled “Varicose-g: High-Performance Graphics in Flash 8” to the Flash DevNet. There is also a place holder for the “Creating Alpha Channel Video for Flash 8” article, written by another of our resident Flash-heads Wes Gorgichuk, which should be active in the next week or so.

On Design Patterns and Reality
Fact: No one codes Flash using pure MVC. One of the things I try to emphasize with developers is that the only absolute in programming is that there are no absolutes. Patterns are architectural heuristics. Understanding them should widen your solution spectrum, not narrow it. Patterns also provide a foundation for communication between developers. Pattern zealots might sound smart, but they are not much better off than developers without any understanding of patterns at all.
Honeymoon in Southern Europe.
After our wedding in June, my wife and I rushed off to a couple of Flash conferences – FlashForward NYC, and Flash’n’Splash at the Banff Centre. Yes, I am a nerd. Three months later, and I’m finally going to take my wonderful wife on a honeymoon. We’re going to be spending 3 weeks in September traveling along the Mediterranean through Spain, France and Italy.
gProject Panel is Now Available!
The gProject panel is a robust replacement for the project panel built into Flash. It incorporates a myriad of time-saving features in a tight, easy to use package. We worked really hard to make gProject something that is useful for everyone. If you just want to use gProject as a file manager, great! If you want to use the advanced features like class and unit test creation, UI introspection, and compile lists to enhance your development process, even better!
gProject panel documentation posted.
gProject is almost ready, we’re just packaging it all up, and getting prepared to process sales… In the interim, we’ve finished up the first draft of the documentation, and are making it publicly available so that developers can get a good overview of what the panel does before they purchase it. I’m very happy to welcome 2 more excellent Flash developers onto our team. Say hi to Kyle and Wes, who both started on Tuesday. That brings our little team up to 7 full time people, plus one intern (hi Steph!). I’m pretty excited about our expanding capabilities…
