Wow! Last night I won Best Canadian Developer at the FitC awards show – quite an honour (eh?). The award design is supercool…

Object Oriented Procrastination Session Notes Online
I’ve just finished off my sessions at FitC (Toronto) and FlashForward (San Francisco) on Object Oriented Procrastination. I had a lot of fun doing both sessions, although I may have had a bit too much booze, and a bit too little sleep for the FitC one. You can check out the session notes by clicking here, and don’t forget to check out the full list of notes from my previous sessions…
Getting Married in June
I don’t usually post about my personal life, but I think that the news is relevant, both because I’m marrying the wonderful woman who has made my professional life possible… She has loved and supported me through thick and thin… Perhaps most amazingly
Publish List Panel
A super simple panel for Flash MX 2004 that lets you quickly assemble a list of FLAs that you would like to compile as a group. To _root, or not to _root?
Stacey Mulcahy posted on her blog last night asking Why is _root evil personified. I posted a bit of a long-winded reply, which I decided to flesh out and re-post here, mainly so that I have my own record of it to point people to when they ask this question (it seems to come up a lot). She also followed up asking the same question about _global, which can be answered in exactly the same manner.
Source Code: Grid Based Proximity Management
About a year ago I released a demo of grid based proximity management. Briefly, it allows you to determine which sprites on a 2d plane are near to one another. It is very efficient, and can deal with literally hundreds of sprites. Today I’m finally releasing the source code.
Source Code: Varicose-G Experiment
As promised, here is the AS2 source code for the Varicose-G experiment that I posted a couple of weeks ago. If this helps you out, or you use it somewhere, please let me know. Download the Flash MX 2004 source files.
Vine-g Experiment
Expanding on the varicose-g experiment I posted a little while back, I tweaked some numbers, and added some new functionality to create vine-g, which shows a rapidly growing vine replete with leaves and flowers. I love experiments like this that you can revisit over and over. I’ll be releasing the code for the varicose experiment tomorrow.
